FAQ About The Delegate Process
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q – Do I need to be a registered Democrat?
A – No. While people are encouraged to join the Democratic Party, it is not a requirement.
Q – I don’t know the first thing about politics or elections. Does that mater?
A – No. You are in good company. The vast majority of caucus attendees are just “regular” people and not political “insiders”.
Q – I am not registered to vote. Can I participate?
A – Yes. Everyone is invited to attend and registration forms will be onsite. While we encourage everyone to be registered to vote, that is not a requirement.
Q – I just moved. Which meeting should I attend? My old address or my new one?
A – You should attend the meeting at your new address.
Q – Where are meetings held?
A – The meetings are held by State House District at your local school, community center or library.
Q – How many people will attend the meetings?
A – Precincts meet by State House Districts and will then break out into individual precinct caucuses. Those smaller meetings will have between 10-15 people.
Q – Can I become a delegate if I cannot attend the meeting?
A – Technically yes. Priority will be given to those who attend their precinct caucuses. But, in the event of no one shows up to your precinct caucus the party will fill the vacancy. People wishing to become delegates but are unable to attend must submit a letter requesting to become a delegate to the county party. You can email the letter to lauren@slcountydems.com. Again, the likelihood of this occurring is very small, and you should plan on attending.
